Seward, Alaska Fishing Report |

August Brings in Great Seward Fishing
Captain Jj and Deckhand Justin started off August
with limits in Ling-Cod and Halibut with several Silvers
(Coho Salmon) and Rock Fish also caught.Fishing is especially great
when the weather cooperates and there are daily Halibut
coming into the docks exceeding 100 pounds and
occasional Halibut breaking
the 200 pound mark. Largest Seward caught Halibut
this summer exceeded 350 pounds. Ling Cod are consistently exceeding 40 pounds with
frequent fish exceeding 50 lbs. The Silvers are getting fatter and fatter every
day as they feed in the salt water.

Winner of the Seward Jackpot Halibut Tournament |

Seward Adventure Charters wins 2007 Seward
Jackpot Halibut Tournament!!!
It is finally official and in the books for the
season. We have won the halibut tournament in Seward
with a 251.2 pound "HOG" caught by David
Hicks of Anchorage on June 24th. We are glad it's
over and we can move on to focus on all the other
species of fish that need our attention like Ling-Cod,
Silver Salmon and Rock Fish along with the Halibut.
Actually, what I meant to say is that the
pressure
is off and the tournament is in the books with us
on top. A very good feeling and well deserved as
we leave the docks on every good weather day in
the summer with the intent of
catching fish like
this one. We caught 5 fish larger last year and
hope to exceed that number this year. Come on out and help us catch another trophy fish!
(Halibut are considered trophy's once they reach
the 200lb mark)

Seward Adventure
Charters Leading Seward Jackpot Halibut Tournament
|
Seward Adventure Charters is on
top of the leader board for the Seward Jackpot Halibut
Tournament. Their fish topped the scales at 251.7 pounds! The previous
leader was 189.
The inclement weather for
the first half of June had kept the weights down
but a week or so ago it broke and the sizes started
coming up.The crew, Captain Jj Robinson and his
able deckhand
Justin Stegall, took 5 clients
out today and decided to push through the snotty
5 footers and find a
protected area to soak some
bait. Once they were on anchor they put down
a bunch of scent and their tackle and waited it
out. After an hour or so the halibut started
hitting but nothing bigger than
89 pounds.
One client was insistent that the crew was "doing
it all wrong" and wanted them to
move the boat
to another location. Captain Jj and Justin
kept telling him that this is a big fish spot
and patience is a necessity. After about 3
hours the big fish hit David Hick's rod and the
fight began. Captain Jj and Justin used their
professional skills to calm the clients and safely
boat the "HOG".Once back at the docks
while the fish was being weighed and pictures were
being taken eveyone congratulated Jj for "waiting
it out". David Hicks is sitting in first place
for the tournament
that ends on the 30th of June
with 1rst, 2nd and 3rd place prizes of $5K, $3K
and $2K How's that for a day of fishing.
We have our fingers crossed at Seward Adventure
Charters that we will stay on top of the board.

Today was a unique day for us.
While trolling for Kings we watched a couple of
Orcas for a couple
of hours. Our clients had
the thrill of seeing them up fairly close but the
down side is that they wreacked havoc on the King
bite. We weren't the only ones chasing the
Kings and although we are good they are better. We
did manage to catch 6 Kings on a slow bite and then
moved out to fish for Halibut. We got a limit
of Halibut although none over 65 pounds.
