At Seward Adventure Charters we offer some of the best sportfishing adventures. When it comes to sportfishing activities we pride ourselves on providing the very best fish catches. Our specialty includes catching exotic fish such as Halibut and Salmon varieties. Our crew and captains are highly skilled anglers in sportfishing and are locals from Alaska. Hence, they know the best pockets to catch the biggest varieties of fish!
Halibut Our specialty lies in catching the biggest, heaviest varieties of Halibut. We have spent years studying the characteristics, habitat and feeding habits so that we know exactly when, where and how to catch Halibut. The best time to catch Halibut is between May and mid-September. We pride ourselves in trophy sportfishing for Halibut at weights over 200 or 300 pounds! The fish provide a tough fight, which in turn provides plenty of adventure! The Pacific Halibut is primarily caught from Nuka Bay in the Gulf of Alaska right upto Montague Island at the beginning of Prince William Sound. Our tackle used for Halibut fishing is one of the best in the industry, we only use customized rods, and two speed Penn reels. You will find our baiting techniques quite impressive as we put in plenty of bait on our circular hooks!
Silver Salmon, also known as Coho Salmon, is a great sportfishing catch because of the adventure involved in catching this fish. We catch silver Salmon fish in and around the Resurrection Bay as well as the Gulf of Alaska. Typically, these fish weigh around 8 or 14 pounds but their weight can be as high as 22 pounds at times. The waters around this region abound with numerous kinds of feeding fish. The silver salmon fish feed voraciously on such fish, making them easy to catch. We use equipment such as Shimano Tekola 700 Level Line Reels and Ugly Stick Rods to fish for Silver Salmon varieties. Fishing techniques vary between hootchie skirts to mooching with herring plugs.
The King Salmon is another fantastic fish to catch. These are not present in such large numbers as the Silver Salmon fish. Yet, the sheer size of these King Salmon fish compensate for their lack of number. The best areas to fish for King Salmon are around the Kenai Peninsula as they thrive in these waters. Typical weights of the King Salmon caught in Gulf of Alaska weigh around 20 or 40 pounds. The best time for fishing is between May and June. Some varieties of King Salmon can even be caught throughout the year.
Lingcod is a fish belonging to the Greenling family of fish. Most of them grow to a peak of 70 pounds and we at Seward Alaska Adventures have caught Lingcod fish weighing around 50 pounds. Lingcod fish are aggressive and feed voraciously on fish nearby. This facilitates easy catches when it comes to sportfishing action. These fish cannot be caught in Resurrection Bay as they are protected species. The fish can be caught from July 1st through the year but should be at least 35 inches to retain.
The Rockfish are available in two varieties: Pelagic and non-Pelagic. The Pelagic fish are black or dusky and are called Black Bass. The non-pelagic varieties are bottom dwellers and common varieties caught include the Red Snapper, Copper Rockfish and Quillback.
